Advance Warning of Road Closures Sunday 9/11/25

ADVANCE WARNING ROAD CLOSURES SUNDAY 9/11/25

To mark this year’s Remembrance Sunday, a parade and service will take place in Wantage on Sunday 9th November 2025. To ensure the safety of participants and the public, a series of rolling and fixed road closures will be in place throughout the morning.

  • Outbound Parade (10:45): Departs Portway Carpark, proceeds via Portway, Newbury Street, and onto Church Street, arriving at the church for 11:00. (members of the public are encouraged to line the route)
  • Church Street & The Cloisters Closure: Closed from 1045 until 12:00 to ensure safe congregation and wreath laying at the war memorial at the church. Members of the public are invited to attend the service outside the church.
  • Return Parade (11:20): Leaves the church, proceeds via Market Place, then back along Newbury Street and Portway to the car park for approximately 11.45. . Members of the public are encouraged to line the route)

During the rolling road closures the following roads will be affected and it is advised to take an alternative route as there will be delays while the parade passes.

1 – Outward Parade – Rolling Road Closure

  • Ickleton Road at junction with Portway Carpark
  • Portway Carpark junctions with Ickleton Road and Portway
  • Portway from Carpark to Newbury Street traffic lights
  • Portway Carpark entrance
  • Newbury Street from traffic lights to Church Street
  • Ormond Road at junction with Newbury Street

 

2 – Return Parade – Rolling Road Closure

  • Market Place (western end and junctions with Mill Street, Wallingford Street, Grove Street)
  • Newbury Street from Market Place to junction with Portway
  • Ormond Road at junction with Newbury Street
  • Portway from Newbury Street to Portway Carpark
  • Portway Carpark

 

3 – Church Street and The Cloisters – closed from 10.45- 12pm

  • Church Street (Newbury Street junction to the church entrance)
  • The Cloisters (access via Church Street)

 

Please note: The bus stop in Market Place will be suspended during this period. The nearest bus stop is Seesen Way (near the library)
