As the days grow shorter and the autumn evenings draw in, Wantage and Grove Neighbourhood Policing Team want to remind everyone about two important safety initiatives: Ask for Angela and the Oxfordshire Safer Place Scheme.
Ask for Angela
If you’re feeling unsafe, uncomfortable, or threatened in a pub, bar, or club, you can discreetly ask staff for “Angela.” This code alerts trained staff to help you get to a safe space, call a taxi, or contact someone you trust — no questions asked.
Oxfordshire Safer Place Scheme
This initiative helps vulnerable people feel safe when out and about. Participating businesses and public buildings display a yellow logo in their window, showing they’re a designated safe place. If you’re lost, confused, or need help, you can go inside and ask for support.
Tips to Stay Safe This Season:
• Plan your route home in advance.
• Keep your phone charged and accessible.
• Travel with friends when possible.
• Trust your instincts — if something feels wrong, seek help.
• Look out for the yellow Safer Place logo and remember “Angela” is there if you need it.
