Temporary Road Closure at Wantage, Denchworth Road
A request has been received from I & G Contractors for a temporary road closure to apply to a section of Denchworth Road whilst essential gas main replacement works are carried out.
A Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO) is being made to implement the temporary closure and will operate from 22 July 2026 up to and including 01 September 2026. This is a 24 hour daily road closure.

International Food & Drink Festival – 5 July 2026
To keep everyone safe during the event and to allow space for activities, the market place and the roads leading to it will be closed to vehicular traffic between 0700 and 1700hrs.
- Market Place to Cloisters
- Alfred Street
- Newbury Street (from Market Place to its junction with Church Street)
- Wallingford Street (from Market Place to its junction with Little Lane)
- Mill Street (from Market Place to its junction with Limborough Close)
- Grove Street (from Market Place to the cul-de-sac)
- Stirlings Road (from its junction with Grove Street to the junction by the library)
Please plan ahead and use alternative routes during this time. Emergency vehicles will still have access.
The bus stop in the market place will be suspended during the road closure. The nearest bus stop will be Seesen Way. Buses will not serve Denchworth Road. Taxis will be relocated to Wallingford Street.

Overnight Road Closures – A338 Newbury Street Resurfacing Works
Oxfordshire County Council will be carrying out overnight resurfacing works on the A338 Newbury Street in Wantage between the B4507 Portway traffic signals and Broadwater Place.
The works are scheduled to take place from Monday 8 June to Wednesday 10 June 2026 between 8pm and 6am each night.
During these times, sections of the A338 will be fully closed, with signed diversion routes in place. As this is an A-road closure, the official diversion route will operate via Hungerford and the A34.
Planned works schedule
Monday 8 June
Resurfacing between the school and Broadwater Place.
- Vehicular access to Woodlands Brook maintained via Portway traffic signals
- Vehicular access to Willow Lane restricted
Tuesday 9 June
Resurfacing between the school and B4507 Portway traffic signals.
- Vehicular access to Woodlands Brook restricted
- Vehicular access to Willow Lane via Court Hill Road
Wednesday 10 June
Road markings reinstated and traffic loops recut.
- Vehicular access to both cul-de-sacs maintained via Portway traffic signals
The works are being carried out overnight to minimise disruption to commuters, schools, businesses and bus services.
Residents and businesses directly affected will receive letters from Oxfordshire County Council ahead of the works.

Temporary Road Closure and no waiting restriction at – West Hendred, A417 Reading Road
In the interests of public safety, it will be necessary for Oxfordshire County Council to temporarily close the section of A417 Reading Road whilst installation of a new signed controlled crossing works are carried out.
A temporary Emergency Notice is being made to implement the temporary closure and will be operated from 22/05/2026.
The anticipated completion date is 24/05/2026 (each night from 20:00hrs to 05:30hrs).
Access will be maintained for emergency service vehicles and for those frontages within the closure area, subject to the progress of the works and liaison with the works supervisor.
